A big “Thank You” and “Congratulations” to our D.A. staff in the Child Support Division for achieving a 100% compliance rate for our 2022-2023 audit by the Department of Children and Family Services Quality Control Section.
Our Office is contracted to provide legal services to DCFS in regard to assessing new child support and paternity cases as well as establishing new orders of support, modifying orders of support and enforcing orders when they are not being paid. We also provide Uniform Interstate Family Support services as some of our cases are sent to other states to establish paternity for child support and enforcement when we have no jurisdiction in our state over the payor of support.
Child support collected in St. Tammany and Washington Parishes from January 1, 2023 – June, 2024 exceeds $28 million dollars with some of these monies reimbursing the state for dollars spent on cash assistance paid to families and Medicaid expenditures for children.
During this same time period, the District Attorney’s office has filed over 2,000 pleadings in child support cases presented to the court for child support determinations.
Louisiana’s child support program collected over $404 million in 2022. For every dollar spent to conduct child support enforcement activities in our state in 2022, $4.71 was returned to families. The child support enforcement program continues to be one of the most efficient governmental programs in the United States.
