COVINGTON—Charles J. O’Neill, 38, of Slidell, has pleaded guilty to second degree rape. District Judge Martin E. Coady sentenced him to 10 years in the Department of Corrections and required O’Neill to register for the rest of his life as a sex offender.

O’Neill invited the victim to his home on June 2 last year, and when she arrived, he locked the doors and raped her. After she had left, he sent the victim a battery of text messages, apologizing for what he had done and begging her not to report the crime.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. O’Neill was arrested and admitted in a statement to officers that the victim did not consent to intercourse.

Assistant District Attorney Jay Adair prosecuted the case. The plea was entered in court last Monday (March 13).
