Daniel Read
COVINGTON—-District Attorney Warren Montgomery reports that Daniel Read, age 35 of Slidell, pled guilty on February 24th, 2015, to molestation of a juvenile. 22nd Judicial District Judge Scott Gardner sentenced Read to 20 years in prison without the benefits of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. Assistant District Attorneys Jason Cuccia and Julie Knight prosecuted the State’s case.
The victim and her family supported the plea agreement.
Read was arrested in April 2012 by the Slidell Police Department after a 4 year old female victim was sexually abused. The abuse came to light when a member of Read’s family observed the victim in a state of undress with the defendant in his room, and informed the victim’s mother. Both families contacted police to report the sexual abuse. During the subsequent investigation, the victim disclosed that Daniel Read had molested her.
Molestation of a juvenile is punishable by imprisonment from 5 to 40 years with 5 years to be served without the benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
