Kendrick Taylor
FRANKLINTON—-District Attorney Warren Montgomery reports that Kendrick Taylor, age 38 of Franklinton, was found guilty on Tuesday, February 24th, 2015, of attempted possession of 28 to 200 grams of cocaine. The 12 person Washington Parish Jury deliberated for an hour before returning the guilty verdict to 22nd Judicial District Judge Martin Coady. Assistant District Attorney Nick Noriea, Jr. prosecuted the State’s case in the 2 day trial.
On July 15th, 2013, after a motel employee discovered that the defendant, Kendrick Taylor, was processing crack cocaine in his motel room, The Franklinton Police Department established surveillance. Subsequently, when the defendant returned and observed the Police, he fled through an adjacent drainage canal. The Police located over 175 grams of cocaine in the drainage canal while attempting to apprehend the defendant. Taylor was arrested when he exited the canal.
Judge Coady will sentence Taylor on March 6th, 2015. Attempted possession of 28 to 200 grams of cocaine is punishable by imprisonment for up to 15 years. Taylor could face from 7 ½ to 30 years in prison if found to be a career criminal due to a prior armed robbery conviction in 1998.
