District Attorney Warren Montgomery joined District Judge Raymond Childress, other court and parish officials, and veterans yesterday in announcing a new Veterans Court in St. Tammany Parish. Childress will preside over newest specialty court, which is aimed at helping offenders who are veterans with addiction or mental health issues get the help they need to recover. Through the court, the veterans will accept responsibility for their crimes and, instead of jail, get mentoring and a customized treatment plan.
