COVINGTON—Brandon Domino, 25, of New Orleans, was sentenced to 25 years in prison Tuesday for an armed robbery in April in Slidell. Domino pled guilty before District Judge Raymond Childress to armed robbery with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The crime occurred about 6:30 a.m. on April 28, 2015, near Coast Boulevard in Slidell, where Domino and an accomplice confronted a man, then 24, at gunpoint. Domino took the victim’s cell phone, wallet, and car. The vehicle was located the next day at a Kenner gas station, but before police could reach him, Domino fled, leaving his girlfriend and her two small children in the car. About a month later, police caught up with Domino at the emergency room of University Hospital in New Orleans, where he was receiving treatment for a gunshot wound to his face.
In a separate case, Jamar Francis, 28, of Slidell, also pled guilty Tuesday to aggravated burglary and second offense domestic abuse battery. Francis was sentenced to eight years in prison on the burglary charge and five years on the domestic abuse battery charge. The sentences are to run concurrently.
Francis broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home on Sept. 12 at about 5:30 a.m., while she was asleep. She awakened in her bedroom to find him standing over her with a box cutter. When she ordered him to leave, he threatened to kill her and her family if she screamed. She screamed anyway, he fled from the house, and she called 9-1-1.
Assistant District Attorney Joey Oubre prosecuted both cases before District Judge Raymond S. Childress.
