Jury Deliberates for Eight Minutes Before Finding Folsom Man Guilty in St. Tammany Parish of Violation of a Protective Order

December 14, 2021

COVINGTON – District Attorney Warren Montgomery reports that on December 14, 2021, a St. Tammany Parish jury found Gunner Patterson (Folsom, La) guilty as charged of Violation of a Protective Order-Second or Subsequent Offense after a one day trial. The jury deliberated for only eight minutes.

Jurors heard testimony that on April 10, 2020, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Patterson showed up at the home of the victim and banged on the front door, cursing and demanding to take custody of their 3-year-old daughter. The door was answered by the victim’s 81-year-old grandmother who immediately recognized Patterson, told him he could not have the child and told him to call the police to address the issue. Shortly thereafter, Patterson left the residence and the victim called 911 to report the incident to law enforcement.

After leaving the victim’s residence, Patterson proceeded to flag down St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Deputy Scott Daussin who was on patrol a short distance away from the victim’s residence. Patterson told Deputy Daussin that he was attempting to pick up his daughter from her mother who refused to allow the daughter to go with him. Deputy Daussin and Patterson relocated back to the victim’s residence and as they were arriving, Deputy Daussin learned from 911 dispatch that the victim had called to report a violation of a protective order. During his investigation, Deputy Daussin determined that—having been previously convicted of Violation of a Protective Order—Patterson had once again violated an active protective order by going to the victim’s home. Further, Deputy Daussin found no evidence that the victim had violated the custody agreement that was in place.

This is Patterson’s third conviction for Violation of a Protective Order. These convictions are in addition to his 2018 conviction for Domestic Abuse Battery-Child Endangerment, which is the conviction that gave rise to the protective orders that have been issued against him.

The District Attorney’s Office would like to thank the victim and her grandmother for their cooperation and Deputy Scott Daussin for his thorough investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Carolyn Chkautovich and Taylor Nicholson. Patterson will be sentenced on January 4, 2022, by the Honorable Judge Scott Gardner.
