Grand Jury Indicts Former RCC Correctional Officers In Inmate’s Death

COVINGTON—District Attorney Warren Montgomery reports that a Washington Parish grand jury has indicted three former officers at the Rayburn Correctional Center (RCC) in Angie on charges of malfeasance of office, conspiracy to commit malfeasance of office, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy to commit obstruction of justice in the death of an inmate earlier this year.

The former correctional officers, Brink Hillman, Gary King, and John Crain, are scheduled for an arraignment hearing on Dec. 5 before District Judge William H. Burris.

Hillman, King, and Crain, are accused of failing to execute their lawful duties, concerning a sickly inmate, who died while in their care on March 10, 2019. The former officers also are accused of tampering with evidence to distort the results of an investigation into the treatment of the inmate.

The officers were subsequently fired from RCC through administrative proceedings. Assistant District Attorney David A. Weilbaecher, Jr., presented the case to the grand jury on Oct. 30.
