FRANKLINTON—District Attorney Warren Montgomery reports that Demario G. Warren, 33, of Franklinton, was sentenced on Wednesday (June 19) to life in prison for manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm. A Washington Parish jury found Warren guilty of the crimes on April 3rd.
On May 31st, 2016, Warren had shot the victim, 33 year old Kiniaki Williams of Franklinton, at a residence over a money dispute. The Franklinton Police Department responded to the shooting where two witnesses to the shooting were present. They informed police that Warren had fled the scene in his girlfriend’s vehicle after he was unable to find William’s money. Warren had also threatened to kill them if they attempted to contact the police. Williams was alive but unresponsive when authorities arrived on the scene. He later died from a gunshot wound to his upper extremities. Warren was found and arrested by the Franklinton Police two hours after the shooting occurred.
After being found guilty on April 3rd of manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, a statement by the fiancé of the victim was read to the court. “Not only did you take my soul mate, you took my heart as well.” Judge William Burris sentenced the defendant as a multiple offender to life imprisonment for manslaughter and 10 years in prison for aggravated assault with a firearm, concurrent with the life sentence.
