Speaker’s Bureau
The District Attorney’s Office has created a Speaker’s Bureau to make our attorneys, investigators, and other professionals available to share their knowledge and skills with school and community groups.
Among the more popular and timely topics that our speakers can address is Internet Safety. The widespread use of mobile phones and handheld electronic tablets have made the Internet a regular part of most students’ lives. However, even with the protections that many parents have incorporated, children are still vulnerable to the possibility of harassment and exploitation by strangers with criminal or ill intent.
A number of our attorneys have prosecuted such cases, involving young people who were victims, as well as perpetrators. Our speakers, which include a Cyber Crime Unit investigator from the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, will draw from such cases to warn students about the dangers of the Internet and the consequences of certain actions. More importantly, they will offer information about how the students can protect themselves online. The speakers are also available to talk to parent groups on the topic.
To request a speaker, please email Public Information Officer Shawn Smith at SSmith@22da.com or call 985-809-8349. Be sure to provide in your email or telephone call as much information as possible about the event or class for which you are requesting a speaker, including size of the audience and time allotted. While we will try to fulfill every request, there may be times when a speaker is unavailable. We look forward to hearing from you.
